Please join us for a community art and ideation workshop with Highland’s Art in Public Places artist Samara Barks at ACC Highland this Saturday, 6/24, at 10am in Presentation Hall 1550. (Best parking location is in the ACC Highland South garage on Wilhemina Delco Drive.) Kids and families are welcome -- we'll have light snacks on hand, too.
Samara will be creating the public art for the soon-to-be revamped and refreshed Highland Park on St. Johns Ave., and she's keen to gather input from the community about what you love about Highland, our history, and our future while she's developing the final product. She's already created some incredible public art for other Austin neighborhoods, and we're so excited to have her on the Highland Park team! Y'all can check out her work at her website, Mixed Hues.
Please spread the word and invite your neighbors!
We’ll gather from 6-8 pm Tuesday, June 13, at ACC Highland Building 2000, Room 2220. Here’s a map:

Agenda
Elections! If you’d like to run for an HNA board position, email president@highlandneighborhood.com, and you’ll be nominated to run for the position. As of now, all officers are standing for re-election. But we do have an open secretary position if you’d like to get involved. Visit this page for more information on the positions on the HNA
We’ll be discussing the Ryan Drive development and we’ll be joined by several representatives from developers showing us their proposals for the site.
Katie Duffy from the Watershed Department will discuss the Rain Catcher program and how we Highlanders can benefit from it.
I’ll provide an update on the public safety issues at I35 and St. Johns, and we’ll be joined by Officer Hyatt from APD.
After noticing a rise in crime and desperation at the corner of I35 and St. Johns, I reached out to Officer Hyatt and Officer Haverland of APD, and urged neighbors to as well. In response, APD agreed to start trying to figure out how to reduce crime there. I then reached out to the St. Johns Neighborhood association and Councilman Casar to see if we could work together to come up with a longer term solution that could possibly more holistic than just arresting people.
This discussion, led by Councilman Casar, will hopefully be the first step in trying to transform that corner and the area in general so kids at Webb/Brentwood can get to school safely, people getting gas or groceries at the stores can feel safe, and neighbors feel safe in their homes up and down the entirety of St. Johns.

- Nick Pellicciotto, President of the HNA.
Hi all,
We’ve decided to move the upcoming HNA meeting to Tuesday September 15, instead of the 8th. The 8th is the first day of school for AISD folks, and I for one will be a bit shellshocked that day since I have a fourth-grader. The meeting will be virtual, via Zoom. Instructions on how to join are below.
Agenda:
6:30-6:45: Nick’s opening remarks, updates.
6:45-7:00: VP topics.
7:00-7:30: Parks and Recreation representatives to discuss park issues in Highland.
7:30-8:00: Councilman Greg Casar Q&A.
