HNA July 2022 Update

Hi neighbors. I hope you’re surviving what’s turning out to be a pretty brutal summer heat-wise. We went to Emma Long yesterday, which is one of my favorite spots for swimming and hanging out. The water is nice and cold out there.

I have a few updates I’d like you to know about.

Councilman Vela and staff meet and greet: Tuesday, July 19

TOMORROW July 19, 619, 6-8 PM @ North Austin YMCA

District 4 councilman Chito Vela and staff want to meet you in person TOMORROW, July 19. Don't miss this opportunity to meet them and let them know your concerns, questions, and requests! Representatives from multiple city departments will be in attendance, including Resource Recovery, Parks and Recreation, Transportation, and the Fire Department. Families are welcome. Refreshments provided.

Please contact District4@austintexas.gov with questions or requests.

Report serious incidents with animals to APD

There have been some serious incidents in the neighborhood recently involving animals from a particular household getting loose and causing damage to other people’s property. I contacted our APD District Representatives about this situation, who stressed that it’s important to report serious incidents like these to the police via 911. Calling 311 and posting to social media doesn’t allow APD to build a case that could allow them to take steps that will help solve these kinds of situations.

You can also contact our APD DR directly as well if you think 911 isn’t warranted but want to ask a police officer about a situation. Our DR is Angela Coleman, and here’s her contact info:

512.974.5516 – Office | 737-228-6514 – Cell | angela.coleman@austintexas.gov

I understand the owners of the animals have been contacted and hopefully the incidents will stop.

Highland Neighborhood Park update

Austin Parks Department has formally tendered a bid for the construction of the next phase of the park, so things are progressing. I believe the deadline for the bid is soon, so construction should hopefully start soon.
